What does locally made furniture really mean?
"Locally made" can cover very different things, so it is worth asking what a seller means by it. Broadly, there are three cases:
- Made locally: the frame is built, the foam cut and the fabric upholstered in a workshop in the country. Some materials, such as fabrics or foams, may come from abroad, but the sofa itself is made here.
- Assembled locally: parts made elsewhere are put together here. Useful, but most of the work happened far away.
- Imported finished: the sofa is made abroad, shipped in a container and sold from stock or to order.

Shorter waits and clearer dates
A sofa made to order abroad has a long road ahead of it: making, packing, sea freight, customs and the final delivery. Sea freight alone often takes several weeks, and each step is a chance for the date to move.
When the workshop is local, most of that road disappears. Homes in the UAE range from compact city apartments to villas with long majlis walls and double-height living rooms. A catalogue designed for another market does not always fit them.

- Fabric: abrasion over 30,000 Martindale cycles, pilling grade 4 or more, and light fastness grade 6 for sunny rooms.
- Weave: tight weaves are the easiest to keep clean of dust and sand.
