Are modular sofas worth it? A guide for UAE homes
A modular sofa changes shape when your life does. Here is when it is worth it, what to look for in a good one, and how to choose the right size for your home.

The short answer
Modular sofas are worth it when your home or your life is likely to change: a move from an apartment to a villa, a family that grows, a living room you like to rearrange, or a building where a long sofa would struggle through the lift. Each module stands on its own, so the same sofa can be a 2-seater today and a U-shape later, and it travels in smaller pieces. If your sofa will stay against one wall for ten years, a one-piece design is just as good a choice.
| What makes it modular | Separate pieces you can join, part and rearrange |
|---|---|
| Size of one Comfo module | About 114 × 114 cm |
| Comfo shapes | Six, from 229 cm to 457 cm wide |
| Comfo prices | AED 7,490 to AED 11,990 |

What is a modular sofa?
A modular sofa is made of separate pieces that sit side by side to form one sofa. Each piece is a complete seat on its own: a seat module with a back, an end module with an arm, or an ottoman without a back. You choose how many pieces you want and how to arrange them, and you can change your mind later.
That is the real difference with a traditional sofa. A one-piece sofa has one fixed shape for life. A modular sofa is closer to a set of building blocks: three modules in a row make a 3-seater, add an ottoman at one end and you have a chaise, add another at the other end and you have a U-shape.
Our guide to modular, sectional and one-piece sofas explains how the three types compare in more detail.
When is a modular sofa worth it?
A modular sofa earns its place in these situations, which are very common in the UAE:
- You rent, or you plan to move. Many families move from one apartment to another, or from an apartment to a villa, within a few years. A modular sofa takes the shape of the next living room instead of being sized for the old one.
- Your building has a compact lift or narrow corridors. Each module travels on its own, so a large sofa arrives in pieces that are easy to carry. Our guide to measuring your lift and doors shows how to check.
- Your family is growing. Start with the shape you need today and plan for a larger one as children grow and evenings get busier.
- You host often. For Ramadan, Eid or a big family dinner, ottomans can move across the room to give guests more seats, then come back for movie night.
- You love to rearrange. A chaise on the left this year, on the right next year, or a U-shape that opens up when the room needs more space.

Comfo is fully modular: six shapes from a 229 cm 2-seater to a 457 cm U-shape, with deep 74 cm seats and ottomans that move freely.

Both types make excellent sofas. They simply shine in different homes.
| Modular sofa | One-piece sofa | |
|---|---|---|
| Shape | Changes whenever you like | Fixed, chosen once |
| Moving home | Travels in smaller pieces | Travels as one piece |
| Look | Relaxed, generous, often deep | A single, sculpted silhouette |
| Seat | A row of separate cushions | Often one continuous line |
| Suits | Changing homes, families, hosting | A settled room with one clear spot |
A one-piece sofa suits you beautifully when the room is settled and you love one particular design, such as the rounded arms of Brioche or the soft bouclé of Nuage. A modular sofa suits you when flexibility matters more than one fixed silhouette.
What to look for in a good modular sofa
Not every modular sofa is built for daily family life. These points are worth checking with any maker:
- Modules that stay together. When you sit down or stand up, the pieces should stay side by side. Many makers join them with clips or brackets underneath, so ask how it works.
- A generous seat depth. Modular sofas are often bought for lounging, and a seat depth of 61 cm or more invites you to curl up. Comfo has 74 cm.
- Ottomans at seat height. An ottoman that sits level with the seats becomes a chaise when it is pushed against the sofa, and a footstool or an extra seat when it is not.
- Every side finished. If modules can stand alone, each one should look good from every angle.
- Several shapes from the same pieces. The more shapes the same modules can make, the longer the sofa will suit your home.
Do modular sofas cost more?
A modular sofa is priced by the number of pieces, so a small one costs about the same as a classic sofa of the same size, and the price grows with each module you add. The advantage is that you pay for the shape you need now. Here is how it works with Comfo:
| Comfo shape | Size | Price |
|---|---|---|
| 2-seater | 229 × 114 cm | AED 7,490 |
| 3-seater | 343 × 114 cm | AED 8,590 |
| Chaise, left or right | 343 × 229 cm | AED 9,790 |
| Corner, left or right | 343 × 229 cm | AED 9,790 |
| U-shape, 5 modules | 343 × 229 cm | AED 10,890 |
| U-shape, 6 modules | 457 × 229 cm | AED 11,990 |
When you compare prices with other sofas, compare the same number of seats and check what is included. Every Pufflo sofa is delivered and installed free in all seven emirates.
Why modular sofas suit life in the UAE
Homes in the UAE ask a lot of a sofa. Living rooms are often open to the dining area, families gather every evening, and guests can arrive in large numbers during Ramadan and Eid. A modular sofa follows all of this.
- In an apartment, a 2-seater or 3-seater fits the main wall and leaves room to walk. Later, the same modules can grow into a corner.
- In a villa, a U-shape fills a large room and gives two people a place to stretch out at once.
- For a majlis evening, ottomans can be moved to face the sofa so guests sit closer together.
- For cleaning, separate pieces are easy to move, so you can vacuum the fine dust and sand that collects under and behind a sofa.

Questions, answered
Are modular sofas comfortable?
Yes, a good modular sofa is as comfortable as any classic sofa. Comfort depends on the seat depth, the cushions and the seat feel, not on whether the sofa comes in pieces. Look for a deep seat if you like to lounge, and choose a soft or medium seat to suit the way you sit.
Do the modules move apart when you sit down?
On a well made modular sofa, the pieces stay together in daily use. Many makers join them with clips or brackets underneath, and a rug under the front legs also helps keep everything in place. Ask any maker how their modules stay together.
Is a modular sofa a good idea for a small apartment?
Yes. A modular sofa can start small, such as the Comfo 2-seater at 229 cm wide, and each piece is easier to bring through the lift and the front door than a long one-piece sofa. When you move to a larger home, the same sofa can grow with you.
Can a modular sofa work in a majlis?
Yes. A U-shape gives seating on three sides with lounging spots at both ends, and the ottomans can be moved to face the sofa when more guests arrive. For a longer majlis along several walls, a custom sofa is the easier answer.
